Rules and Radom Thoughts

Way back in the probably never were years called high school Jody went to college… One weekend she mentioned that “Never run acrossed the street, to be cool is to walk”  WHAAT, apparently someone she knew had a list of rules that he lived by and that was one of the rules.  Well that inspired me.  I needed rules to live by.  This is the list that started in the way back when.  I don’t recall when the last rule was added, but this is definitely a work in progress.  Most of the rules have a story, and if asked I will try to tell, that taught me a lesson.  They are not in order of importance, but in some cases the order is important. And as all rules they sometime get broken. So here you go::
Ryan’s Rules to Live by::
1. Fire Hot!
2. OPEN door, then go through.
3. Hammer the board not the hand.
4. Always try the house dressing.
5. Love and cherish Christy with all your heart.
6. Remember friends fondly, and forever.
7. Why don’t you just take a hike?  Is only a question.
8. NEVER look back.
9.  “Damn the torpedoes!  Full speed ahead.”
10. Never trust anyone your dog doesn’t.
11. Stare into the kids’ eyes at least once a day.
12. Live somewhere that you can get good food.
13. Death is temporary, life is forever.
14. Believe in miracles.
15. Doubt everything.
16. True friendship is eternal.
17. Sleep when you can, play when you want.
18. True sincerity cannot be faked.  Don’t even try.

21. Not everyone wants to know everything that you “know”.
22. Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is the best defense.
23. Happiness is internal.
24. Never betray a trust given you.
25. La vita dura e` una gran fregatura.
26. Take the scenic route.
27. Life is too short to be miserable.
28. Apathy RULES!!!
29. The appearance of evil is not necessarily evil.
30. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and expect nothing.
31. Improvise, adapt, overcome, and quit your bitch’n.
32. If you can’t beat ’em befriend ’em.
33. “Two things cannot be taken back: the spoken word and the loosed arrow.  Take care with both.”
34. Don’t go where you aren’t welcome.
35. Use the Force.
36. To thine own self be true.
37. Admit it when you are wrong, (and sometimes when your not).
38. EVERYTHING that you do affects someone else.
39. Know when to walk away, (knowing when to run probably doesn’t  hurt either).
40. When in doubt “gun” it.
41. People are not playthings.
42. You do not have to control the light, the ballet, the scenery, and the other actors.
43. The first Christian was crucified; don’t be surprised if you are too.
44. They still kill the messenger.
45. “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate lead to suffering.”
46. Preparation eliminates fear.
47. Never assume that you know your friends.
48. You are not the exception.
49. Skill + Opportunity=Luck.
50. “Sometimes the sun shines through the rain.”
51. Woulda, coulda, shoulda, don’t mean jack.
52. Don’t worry what people think, people are morons (Code 1!).
53. “It’s all connected, you know.”
54. “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you might find you get what you need.”
55. Play the game by your rules.
56. Keep your eye on the goal.
57. Being rich is knowing that you can live with less.
58. The more crap you put up with the more crap you are gonnà get.
59. “Measurements are our friends and sometimes are helpful when making things.”
60.  I just want people to succeed, by my definition of success.

In reading the rules it looks like rule 60 was added about a year ago.

  1. Funny how we all kind of get to the same conclusions via very different pathways. I guess that’s what it’s all about (not the hokey pokey?). Good stuff there.

    • I don’t know there is still a lot to be said about the hokey pokey. imagine that yours would have a stitch in time saves nine. (is that even a knitting reference or am I letting my ignorance show)… I am glad you see your comments again, I hope you had a good summer, and are enjoying being back to school.

    • I actually put these to “paper” while working at Tyco so many of them have to do with that lovely, dare I say epic, place.
17,18,19,224,29,37,38 actually have your name attached to the story line. If you want to know how I’ll let you know.
21,22,27,28,34,36,39,43,44,47,52,53 have to do with all the “fun” that we put up with there.

  2. seems like i’m barely keeping my head above water most days…it’s been a lot of work getting my new teaching assignment figured out. It’s good but busy. reading your list made me think of simpler times and good friends – one of the bright spots in this long day – thanks:)
